SHIPPING NOTES.
A feature of yesterday's shipping re- turns was the big decrease in the number of arrivals and the consequent reduction in the total number of vessels in the har bour. The total number of vessels in the harbour at @ a.m. yesterday was 57, of which 24 were British. This is the lowest figure reached since the strike, although there has been during the past three movement among local months more shipping; which was held up during the trouble.
The arrivals, however, for the twenty- four hours ended at 9 am yesterday showed a considerable falling off in the previous day's figures, being four, one British, one. French, ond Dutch and one Japanese, compared with fourteen ar rivals for the provious twenty-four hours. The departures for the same period num. bered nine and clearances three. The de- crease in the number of arrivals, is, of course, partly accounted for by the fact that vessels coming in from. Singapore al report encountering heavy seas and the N.E. monsoon.
