THE ART OF DIANA WATTS.

UNIQUE LECTURES.

TO BE GIVEN AN IDNOKONG. Mrs. Diana Watta, on her World Tour, arrives in Hongkong in a fortnight and will give a series of two lectures at thá Theatre Royal on December 21st, at 9.13. and on December 2nd, at 8.15 pink,- the first on The Principles of Greek Balance" and the second, which fallows on the first, on The Science and Art of Perfect Movement"

ITS ORIGIN AND OBJECTS.

At last Wednesday's public meeting of the Hongkong Lodge of The Theoso phical Society. Mr. H. E. Lanepart gave A discourse on "An Introduction to Theosophy." The Theosophical Society, he said, has as its true founders certain spiritual teachers who choose it as their instrument for the 're-proclamation' in a modern form of the God-Wisdom of the East. As a centre for those who held this esoteric philosophy, round whom might gather others-followers "ofit or simply men of "noble aims of service to humanity, the Masters of the Wisdom instigated the founding of the Theoso phien Society in New York, in 1575, by Helena Petrovua Blavatsky and Colonel Olcott. H. . Blavatsky was of noble birth and rank, being a descendant of the ancient families of the Borons van-Hahn- Mecklenburg and the Counts Dolgoruki, and a widow of General Blavatsky, Vice Governor of Erivan and Concilior of State Renouncing rank and wealth, she travelled in many lands and finally pass ed under the tuition of a great Eastern adept. Through her, Colonel Henry Steele Olcott was brought in contact with the Masters of Wisdom, and he was elected the Life-President of the Theoso- phical Society. The objects of the So cipty are frst, to form a nucleus of the Universal Brotherhood of Humanity,

The Art of Dinana Watts was the title of an article published by The Times descriptive of an Art which has lain buried for over 2,000 years and which has recently been brought to Efe again in the work and parson of Diana Watts.

In her own person she demonstrates the movement of statues which have been considered as impossible positions. Her reconstruction of the fleeting poise of such casterpieces as the "Discobolus," the Archer of the Aegina Pediment and the "Charioteer" of the Capitol, is a brilliant piece of work, and cne is wakened to a sense of fitness and beauty that has long since been lost. fundamental principles of perfect balance. Alrs. Watts begins by explaining the She shows the contrast between the modern human being and the Ancient Greek. She lays bare in all its pitifu... ugliness the sloppy, disconnected move- nients of the average man and woman, them in every detail, carefully but

Eleanore Duse said of Mrs. Watts:- "She is the most wonderful woman I have ever seen; she as the force and graec of a wild bird."";

I may ledge of the East. Ever has the East say without exaggeration that I have been the Mother of Religions, and she seldom, if ever, enjoyed any experience has come again to the aid of the West more than the exhilarating ninety minutes The era of blind faith is gone; that of during which you were stimulating and enquiry has come. The East, will help pleasing the minds of your audience." to give the West a secure basis upon which to reconstruct their crumbling faith and what they need is the evidence that the Eastern soul seeking psychology alonic supplies. The third object also tends to Brotherhood, in that it leads man to understand himself and his place. in the Universe, and finally demonstrates to him the underlying spiritual truths of life, the spiritual unity of all beings. More and more this leads to co-operation in the search for truth, to softening of prejudices, to liberalizing of minds, and to the growth of a gracious friendliness and willingness to learn. Thus the Theosophical Society spreads wherever it goes, a gentle and refining influence of rence and goodwill, forming one of the forees that make for good among the con- flicts of modern civilization.

TAKES NO SIDES.

The Society has no dogmana, insists on no belief, supports no party, endurses no exclusive Church, takes no sides in the quarrels which embitter national, social and personal life. Everywhere it eries to man" Peace," you are Brothers,"" and There is no Religion higher than Truth. It seeks to draw no man aWAY from his religion, but rather gives hun the right knowledge to find in the depths of his own religion the spiritual and in- tellectual nourishment he 'needs. Those members who have proven themselves worthy of that privilege, are admitted to the Inner Schoof of the Theosophical Society where the ancient escteric philosophy is taught. This philosophy is a body of knowledge embracing all truths that can be known during the present eyelo of evolution, and is in charge of the Masters of Wisdom, who constitute the Great White Brotherhood, the Occult Hierarchy of the World, who, from their spiritual heights guide the slow onward march of Humanity, and give out to it by their messengers portious of this: esoteric or hidden knowledge. in the measure the races of man are becoming capable of assimilating it. These truths have formed the basis of the various. grent religions of the world, and have ever given fresh impulse to science and philosophy. For in science, as in so- ligion and in philosophy, the Atos Vidys or Spiritual Wisdom, is the complete body of truth, and by the study of it we may learn what men shall know in the future, as well as what they are learn- ing with such toil and pains and loss in the bye-ways of worldly life.

The main teachings of the esoteric theosophy are:-

1. One eternal, infinite, unknowable real 'existence.

2-From that the manifested Cad, un- folding from unity to duality, and from duality to trinity.

8. From the manifested trinity any spiritual intelligences guiding cosmic order.

4-Man a reflection of the manifested God and thereforela trinity in his inner nature, his inner and real self being eternal, one with the self of the

verse.

5. His evolution by repeated incaña tions, into which he is drawn by desire; and from which he is set free by know ledgo and sacrifice, becoming diving!in active powers as be even was divine in possibilities. God being everywhere and in everything, there is in every form the promise of divine, consciousness. The division between man and man is an illusio Man is individually and collec tively of God. All thought, sil conscious- ness are His, for He is the one, the only, the eternal life. And that is the pledge of our immortality.
