SHIPPING NOTES.
The shipping statement for yester day showed that the total number of vessols in the harbour at 9 am was 71, of which 38 were British.
For the 24 hours ended at 9 am. yesterday there were 13 arrivals, of which four were British, one French, one German, two Americas, two Dutch. three Japaness and two Chinese. The departures for the same period num bered eight and there were five vessels with clearance ́papers in^
Cargo entered for the above period showed a decrease of 4,525 tons on that entered for the previous day. The total entry came to 1,830 tons, of which the largest consignment was 6,850 tons of coal brought by the ss. Shiners Naru No. 1 from Chinwangtao-compared with the total of 14,384 tons entered for. the previous: 24 hours. Deck passengers carried numbered 991, of which 903 were brought by the La Van Overstruten from Belawan, Deli and Singapore.

THE SEATTLE-MANILA `LINE.

An Associated Press radio message from Portland, Or, to the Manila papers, dated the 11th inst. states that Mr. Stanley Dollar has announced that he in- tended to negotiate with the United States Shipping Board for the purchase of the five steners which his company is now operating between Seattle Manila. He said that if they were ob- tainable at a reasonable price the Dollar interests undoubtedly would buy them. It is reported that several syndicates are preparing to make bids for the steamers.

that the American, Oriental Mail Line
had offered to, charter from the United States Shipping Board the fire liners and nine freighters at present operating be tween Puget Sound and the Far East with the eventual right of purchase of the ships. Mr. Dollar is going to Washing- ton shortly to urge the charter plan..
