THE PETROLEUM TRADE.
SHELL-MEX AND ITS NATIONAL IMPORTANCE.
The following appears in the Petroleum Times of September 19th:--
The ever-growing importance of the petroleum trade in this country, coupled with the natural desire of consumers to support really British enterprise, renders the present moment particularly oppor tune to refer at some length to Shell. Mex and its organisation
The name of the company-Shell-Mex Ltd., is comparatively new, "for it was only formed less than five years ago, but its foundations were laid siderably over a quarter of a century ago, when the Right Hon. Lord Bearsted (then Mr. Marcus Samael, and later Sir" Marcus Sanuel) formed the Shell Transport and Trading Company, Ltd., with the modest capital of under £2,000.00, Shell-Mex, Ltd. represents an amalgamation of the Shell Marketing Company. Ltd., and the Auglo Mexican Petroleum Company. Despite the enormous consumption of petrol in this country and the vast in- terests which this country possessis in oil producing territories, it is known that FOR the vast hulk of motor spirit marketed is regiona derived from crude produced outside the British Empire. but as thow ing the national character and desires of the Shell organisation, it is import ant to record the official statement of the company that it distributes more petrol obtained from crude oil produced within the British Empire than all other petrol distributors combined.
