COMMENTS AND CRITICISMS BY UNOFFICIAL MEMBERS OF COUNCIL.
THE GOVERNMENT'S REPLY.
STRONG FAITH IN THE FUTURE PROSPERITY OF THE COLONY,
The fact that most members attired themselves in formal business dress-top hat and tail coat-for the meeting of the Legislative Council yesterday afternoon was evidence that the gathering was regarded as one During that of unusual importance. The business lasted over two hours, time the Budget for 1996 was passed and heth H. E. The Governor and the Colonial Secretary took formal leave of the Council. It is probably unique in the history of the Colony that both the Governor and Colonial Secretary should end their term of office simultaneously. As is known His Exellency goes to take up the Governorship of Jamaica. The Colonial Secretary is leaving on retirement from the Service. Having spent fourteen. years in the Colony during which period he has taken part in twelve Budget debates and introduced the estimates as Offerr Aduinistering the Government on three necasions, 1914, 1910 and 1923. There was a full attendance af members, Colonel C. Russell Brown, D.S.O., taking the oath of office and assuming the place of H. the General Oficer Constanding the Troops, Major-General C. C. Laard, who is on leave.
