HONGKONG DAILY

THE PROPOSED BLOCKADE OF CANTON.

VIEWS FROM PEKING, SHANGHAI AND THE

KUOMINTANG

The Peking correspondent of the Porta China Daily News, yriting under date of August 20th, says

.1.

The resolutions passed by a recent mass mecting at Hongkong in favour of a blockade of Canton, have excited a good deal of discedasion in offrial circles in Peking.

The Chinese do not consider that the

British Government will entertain the suggestions for a moment and, if any such action were taken, it is pointed out that it would most emphatically be re garded as an affront to the nation as a whole. There could be no question but that isolated action against Canton woukt involve the rest of China
