There is no other carl game into which the personal element enters a strongly as it does into Anetion Bridge. By the por sonal element. I mean not only a knowledge of one's partner's methods and peculiarities, but also of one's opponents, foibles, of their habitual methods of declaring of their strong points and their weaknesses and of how far they can he hidden up with safety,
The man who is a student of character has all the makings of a successful Auction Bridge player inherent in him before he ren learns the game. Different players play it on such widely different lines that a proper appreciation of their temperaments, of their individual characteristics, and of their various methods is half the battle in gauging the strength of their hands.
When a man suts into a table with people whom he has never played with before, he will, naturally, know nothing about their methods, be will have to pick up his know. ledge us goes along, but this does not often happen. Must people play habitually in the same set, and it is here that the student of character, the observant and retentive player, reapes his golden harvest.

Beach and bathing suits this year are delightfully smort. Waterproof taffetas is the ideal material for these garments; it wears well and does not "eling." bright shade of groen looks charming in the water; so does bright purple or car- nation red. Curiously enough blue is a colour which must be used carefully when seaside garments are being designed.
White looks best for the beach, and red or purple should be chosen for the вед. Carnation-red bathing suits are very becoming to dark women.
