HONGKONG'S SHIPPING. -LÁST YEAR'S STATISTICS, The Report of the Harbour Master of Hongkong (Leut-Commander F. Q. Hole, RN for the year 1924 states that the total Shipping entering and clearing at Ports in the Cokey during the year 1934- amounted to 761,192 vessels of 3,731.077 toas, which compared with the gurea of 1993 show a decrease of 13,730 vessel: and an increase of 1,328,898 Upps..

Of the above 37,763 vessels of 38,400! tous were engaged in Foreign Trade as compared with 49,500 vessels at 35,011,38 tons, in 1923

A decrease is shown in British Ocean going Shipping of ships or 1.7 per cent nail an increase of 622,011 tons or | 5.3 per cent. This decrease in ships is due to ss. Tai Sang, Wing Sang and Andre being transferred to the Chinese Rng. The increase in tonnage is die to larget vessels ferquenting the Port.

Foreign Ocean-going vessels have in- crinsed by 426 ships and by 1,238,16 tons or 3.9 per crat, in numbers and 0.3 per cent, in tonnage. This increase in ships and tonnage is due to more and targer American and German vessels fre quenting the Port, also to a number of Norwegian, Chilian and Panama vessels put of the Consting trade.

The average tontage of individual Ocean vessels entering the Port has in- creased from 2,053,2 to 2,1208 tons: Bri. tish Ships from 2,070.9., tó 2,234.3 tons; Foreign Ships from 2,0103 to 2.057.6 tons. The average tonnage of individual River Steamers entering during the year has increased from 625.1 to 659.8 tone. British River Steamers from 600.0 to 813.5 tons, and Foreign River Steamers from 332.7 to 240.3 tons

The actual number of individual Ocean- going vessels of European 'construction during the year 1994 was 1,122 of which 416 were British and 707 Foreign. 1923 the corresponding figures were 1,1964, 520 British and 657 Foreign.

TEACHERS' PENSIONS.

BIG NEW BURDEN ON TAX-PAYERS.

According to White Paper (Comd. 382) issued by the Board of Education, the benefits to be enjoyed by teachers un- der the Superannuation Bill which the Government proposes to introduce this year will cost the Exchequer £1,500,000 in 1920-27, while the charge will rise your by year until, in 1988, it reaches £6,140,000.

The Bill it a sequel to the dispute be tween local authorities and, the teachers on the question of a reduction in salaries Lord Burnbama was the arbitrator, and Lord Eustace Percy, President of the Board of Education, recently announced that the Cabinet had agreed to a com- promise concerning the contributions by local authorities to "teachers' pensiona.

The present salaries of pensionable teachers are £50,000,000 a year. Under the Bill, after April 1st,' 1928, local authorities will have to contribute 5 per cent. of the salaries towards pensions, while the teachers also contribute & per cent. The local authorities' payments will tank for the usual grant.

No Claims will be admitted after the Goods have left the Steamer's Godown, and all Goods remaining undelivered after the 19th May, will be subject to Rent.

All Claims against the Steamer must be presented to the Undersigned on or before the 2nd June, or they will not be recognized.

No Fire Insurance will be affected.
