ADVISORY COMMITTEE. : Continuing. Sir William Mitchell- Thomson said: I desire to put on record some letters which have passed between Sir Robert Donald and myself. The first letter is dated November 28th, 1994
Dear Sir WILLIAM,-. had a letter this morning from Sir Alfred Mond, who is anxious to know whether our Committee is to be reappointed, nashe is,now making arrangements to go abroad for a few months. I have told him that I boped to be able to hear from you on the subject in the course of a few days.
To that I replied next day:-
1.
Dear Sir ROBERT,-1 have your letter of the 26th iustant 1 understood from you at our talk on the 4th instant "that, in your judgment, the prospects of an agreed report from the Committee were so remote that no good purpose would be served by reappointing it, and that, so far as you were concerned, you would prefer to leave the question to my deĉi- sion after a review of the evidence and the various views. You were good enough to add that you would recommend this course to your colleagues, and, under these circumstances, I propose to adopt it, and to refrain accordingly from ad- vising that the Committee be reappoint- ed. Will you let Sir Alfred Mond know 1 Of the 28th Sir Robert Donald re- plied:-
Dear Sir W-1 will let the members of the Committee know of your decision not to advise their reappoint- ment As I said; you have all the evid ence before you, and as there is no pros pect of an agreed report, it will save time if you make up your mind on the facts, before you. May I suggest, how- ever, that if you are going to take fur- ther evidence inside the offics that it would only be fair to the Committed that you should get evidence from both points of view 3.

· I did not think it necessary to taka further evidence or information from in- side the office, because I found from the evidence before me that I had sufficient and, in my judgment, ample evidence on which to form a “conclusión. I had given not merely some days, but soïne weeks to a very careful review of the evidence. I read 'and reread the whole that evidence, and having done sa I came to my conclusions, which I com municated to Bir Robert Donald and the other members of the Committee through him. I am now asked by Sir Roberts Donald whether I would be prepared to publish that evidence, So far as T. anf personally concerned, "I should have no objection whatever, but I am bound to that to. publish the evidence taken before a Committee of the Cabinet would..
