COMPANY MEETING. SIMPLEX PLASTER CO., LIMITED. The first annual meeting of shareholders ia the Simplex Plaster Co., Limited, was hell yesterday afternoon at the office of the Company. Powell's Building. Dés Voeux Rond. Mr. D. H. Blake presided.
After the Secretary had read the notice convening the meeting.
The CHAIRMAN said: Gentlemen,-The Report of the Directors and the State- ment of Accounts for the year 1921 have been in your possession for some time,. and will. as usual, with your permais. sion, take them as readi
Your Directors regret that, the results of the year's working.have not been ns. favourable as anticipated when the Com pany was formed. The loss that has been sustained is, however, comparatively. small, and has been caused by a series of events which could not have been anticipated by the General Manages s
You will note the balance sheet that the land is put down at cost viz: $14.000, Mr. Wong Kwokt Shen shortly after he bad acquired the land for the Company, received a tentative offer for it of $120,000, and states that now it is probably worth at least $60,000, so that the $14,000 appearing in the balance sheet may be taken as a very conservative valuation.
The assembly of the machinery was completed the latter part of May and the factory started operations the rat week in June so the period of opera- tion from the date the machinery started working to the end of the year is only seven months, instead of a full year. As this year is the first of the Company's activities, the comparatively heavy or

If this contract for plaster had been com pleted your Directors no doubt would have had a much more favourable bal- ance sheet to present. However, ninety odd houses have how been completed and fifty of these will be ready for plaster. within the near future. The major por- tion of the benefits which the Company will derive from this contract will, how. ever, accrue to the Company this year?

A few months after the plant started operations, our plaster expert, whose scr- vices had been secured at considerable expense to the Company, Lemme found is necessary to leave the Colony. His departure enused delay in the deve lopment of the Company's export busi- ness, the intricacies of which can only with be properly accomplished by one considerable experience in the manufac- ture of

This will no doubt prove exceedingly satisfactory for Chinese types of houses owing to the cheapness of the material itself and its grout adaptability. Instead of plastering internal brick walls of Chinese dwellings, lic. wide wood furring strips placed
24in. apart and extending from floor to
to ceiling are nailed directly to the brickwork. Shest rock slabs are then nailed to the furring strips and the vertical joints be- tween the sheets are covered with small metal or wood beadings. Paint or colour wash can then be applied to the exposed surface of the sheet rock, and the final result is a beautiful panelled room at a much less cost than if native plaster were used.
