the coat.

This season it is certain that the aes centuated waistline will disappear. Jackets and coats will be easier.

Where double-breasted jackets are con- cerned, the tendency is for the flap to! extend farther to the right-hand side than hitherto; indeed, the edge of the coat will very nearly touch the jetted skirt pocket. This breadth to the front will breessitate the two rows of three buttons being placed farther apart, and will also add width to the already wide lapel. This last is noticeably on the single breasted jacket. :

There is no effort to revive the plain single-breasted kind of lapel, but in order to be more up to date it will be broader than anything our grandfathers wore. I think the single-breasted kind is best on a tweed jacket, and that the double-breasted lapel gives style to the jacket made from a dressy material, such as serge, cashmere, or worsted.

3-BUTTONS JACKETS.

'The single-breasted lounge jacket will have three buttons on the front. Both syles of lounge jacket, the single and the double-breasted, are being worn longer, just as the waistcout is getting shorter.

The newest single-breasted, kind, for wear with the double-breasted jacket is cut with a very narrow opening, narrow and long, while the points at the waist are short and set close together. The double- breasted waistcoat, which will be so much. worn with the single-breasted · jacket, will have a straight line as the waist and tapels considerably broader than any chat have so far adorned this garment.

Light coloured waistcoats eure being promeda revival: already I we muny creams, biscuits, and soft powder blurs being worn with ndyy, browy, and dark "single-breasted lounge suits. These colour- ed waistcoats will always be made in the double-breasted style..

Trousers are still wide-nerously wide for the taller mar-but otherwise! there is no change. The made in tweeda and loud patterned materials should carry a permanent turn-up, but in the more dressy cloths they should be quite plain over the boot.

WOMEN AND THE FRANCHISE.

LIVELY DEBATE IN COMMONS.

Women provided the liveliest passages in the franchise debate in the House of Commons, on the 20th alt.. and kept th Chamber in roars of laughter.

Lady Astor said that she deplored the action of the Ministry in batting in" on a private Bill. It was not usual, and in put many supporters of the Government in a difficult position. The women fels that they had been let down by all parties. Miss Wilkinson said that it was the old cry that if young women were enfranchis-

ed they would vote for the best-look- andidates, but on scratinising the she could not see any need for anxiety on that acore.
