Messrs. Benjamin and Potts, in their weekly share report, dated Friday, March Tath, say:-

A large business has been, effected during the week without much change in the value of shares. There has also been inore doing with Shanghai and the mar ket there has improved, particularly in Shanghai Docks and Langkats.

Banks-Hongkong and Shanghai Banks have been dealt in to some extent at $1,200/3,240. The market closes with huyers at the former rate. The price at home remains auchanged at £140 middle.

Marine and Fice Insurances.--Unions have been in good demand with sales made at $283 to 2266. Cantons have buyers at $740. Yangtazes are also firmer with buyers at $2 Underwriters have been sold at 29.90 to $3. Both China Fires and Hongkong Fires are wanted. the former at $103 and the latter at $710

Shipping. Douglas Steamships are en- quired for a $38, at which rate a small business was transacted. "Star Ferries are inclined to strengthen with buyers at $78 after sales at $77, Hongkong, Caa- ton and Macao Steamboats shew an im- provement. being in demand at $335. Waterboats remain firm at $171. Tugs and Lighters have weakened slightly and are ofering at $4.70.

Refineries-Chips Sugars Enve further recoded, but close with buyers at 862. Malabans could probably be placed at $50円

Oils and Mining-Kailans have buyers locally and have been purchased from London at 38fad. Langkats "combined' have had a smart rise with unles made up to Tls. "244. The single shares have. also improved and have "buyers at "Tía. 1060 Explorations are wanted at Tls.

A fair business has been done in Sterling Tiu shares, which are ruling firm owing to the continued strength of the commodity.

Docks, Wharves and Godowns-Hong- Kong and Whamnon Docks have again weakened with sales made down to 8196. Shanghai Docks have advanced to Tis. 191, ex the dividend of Tla, ni paid on the 10th instant, New Engineerings arc also Ermer, with buyers at Tis. 91. Hong- kong and Kowloon Wharves are ruling weak with sellers at $188. Hoogker Wharves are in demand at Tis. 199.

Lands, Hotels and Buildings-Hong- kong Lands have been changing bards to some extent with sales made down to 800. The market closes slightly firmer with buyers at 3a1. Humphreys Estates were dealt in up to 822, but close weaker with sellers at 3911 Hongkong Hotels are a weak market with sales made down to $16.

Dairy Farms have buyers at 395 after sales at 3264 Hongkong Ropes have dropped to 250. China Provident (combined) have been ruling quiet and shates are offering at $20. Watsons have advanced "to $2. There is some enquiry for Canton Iccs. at $64.

EXCHANGE IN SIAM,

The Ministry of Finance in Siam, has issued the following communiqué:-In view of the continually recurring rumours of an intention on the part of the Gov- ernment to effect a further reduction of exchange, H.H. the Minister of Finance deems it expedient to inform the public that it is the purpose and desire of the Government to maintain exchange at its existing level as long as possible, and that he does not at present see any reason for lowering the rate. At the same time His Highness reserves entire liberty of action for the Government to make such further change at any time, without notice, as appears called for in the general internas of the country,
