Since our last report of the och inst. there has been very little activity in the local market, and rates with few excep- tions have shown a tendency to weaken. Buyers of both investraent and specula, tive stocks are holding off hoping for lower prices.

Banks.Hongkong & Shanghai Banks were put through in the early part of the week at $1.25. but a strong demand for the shares lifted the price to $1,243. The market has, however, based off at the close to $1,220 buyers. Latest cabled ad →vices from London quote this stock

Marine and Fire Insuraner. Unions have further declined to $236. China Underwriters have again hardened and anles have been made at $3.30. China Fires at. $103 mark a further rise. Can- tore at 9733, and Hongkong Fires at $10 are nominial. Yangtazes are wanted at Bill.

Shipping. Star Ferries have made! further headway and there" are buyers at $80 ex rights and ex dividend after transactions at this rate Hoogkong. Canton and Macao Steambonts have re- ceded to 828. Hongkong and Kowloon Wharves have further receded to $207. Hongkong Wharves are wanted in the North at Tla 910. A Seal dividend of T has just been declared. New Engineerings closed steady at Tls. 7.90.
