HOCKEY NOTES. Lay SHORT CORNER.]

I prophesied in these Notes last week that an the occasion of the first "Shield" gade with the Navy the H.K.HC would' take the fold in not too pessimistic a wood. As it happened the Navy found themselves without Simpson and Nichol son in Wednesday's game at the U.S.LC., while the Club played two experi- mental backs in A 6. Hett and Dand.

The Navy opened the scoring in the early part of the game, and scored again before half time, the Club securing their + first goal just before the half time whistle sounded. In the second half the only goal scored was by the Club and tho game ended in a draw of 2-2, a result which seemed by general consent to re- present filty the run of the game. The goni posts at the Hungham end were instrumental insaving both sides in their turn from goals against them, the bali coming back off the posts into play and being cleared, not before some excit ing moments in each case, by the backs. The Navy right wing. was noticeably more effective than the left, bus this was due in some degree to passes from the centre coming out to the left wing well forward and rather hard.
