LION TRAINER ATTACKED.
DR. IVANOFF HAS SENSATIONAL EXPERIENCE.
BOCLOGNE, December 10th.
A large crowd of spectators present at
a show at the Kurscil in the Hue Victor
Hugo, Boulogne, yesterday, witnessed a thrilling duel between a lioness, and ber trainer Dr. Ivanoff.
The trainer had been in the lions' den some minutes, and midway through the performance sat on the floor of the cage- with the beasts on either side of him He was about to rise when a Honess struck him a violent blow on his shoulder and face with her paw.
Ivanoff, jumping cicar, was able to use
his whip and sent the lioness cowering

ner, and though suffering considerable pain, refuse to leave the den until he
was satisfied that all three bensta were absolutely under control. Ho was loudly cheered when he came out,
The other device is an adaptation of the familiar parachute. When a pilot finds himself out of "control, as a greas height, and is unable to right himself be- cause either his motor or his controls have failed, be releases a parachute large pas- enough to bring himself and his sengers safely to the ground. As soon as the parachute is brought into opera- tion, the motor and wings of the ma chin are automatically detached and the airplane descends at a rate nol exceeding two or three yards a second.
How fast the engine and the wings descend and whom they hit is another. matter.
