Motor tonnage thus equals over 60 per cent of the steam tonnage, show- ing the remarkable development which is taking place in the adoption of system of propulsion. Vessels under construction abroad include eight in Hongkong of 18.390 tons gross and twelve in Japan of 39,990 tons. Ships com merced during the quarter include two vessels in Japan of 8,23) "tous, and launched in the RU.TH country numbered four of 14,459 tuus. In Japan two vessels under 2.000 tons are in hand, six of between 2,000 and 3.000 tons, three of between 1,000 and 5,909, and one of be tween 5000 and 7,599.
