Birrell Mr Geo, E. Birl was given by Mrs. James Macbeth who has had years of experience in house Mr G. Bowack She emphasized Mr A. Brooks keeping in Shanghai. the necessary qualities of kindness, sym pathy and patience in dealing with ser- vants. A great deal of trouble, she said, aruse froth a lack of understanding be tween master and servant as the Chinese outlook was so different from the foreign. The speaker said that the meal times of the servants should be strictly ob served and that regularity was necessary in a smoothly-runcing household. these points were carefully considered. the housewife had a right to expect efficiency from her servants.

Mrs. Peter spoke briefly on the health of servants. She said they were ignor aat of how to preserve good health. Tact and patience had to be used in teaching them hygiene. Servants should have ade quate facilities for making themselves clenu A bath should be provided for them. Servants' roons should be pro perly ventilated and sunned.

Mrs. Peter spoke of the importance of getting all servhats physically examined Before engaging them and having them looked after properly during illness.
