CANTON NEWS.
TERAM OUR CHINESE CORRESPONDENT:) THE ANTI-CHRISTIAN AGITATION.
The office of the Civil Governor in Canton has not seen fit to take any de Anite setion relative to a recommenda... hon of the anti-Christian. League to register and regulate all Christian in- stitutions. The Civil Governor, replying, simply said that he would refer the re- commendation to the Bureau of Educa tion, lor attention.
One Mr. Huang Han-ying, a Christian in Canton who has very little patience. with those anti-Christine agitators who, he believes are insincere, is trying ba organize a group of young men to give the Bolshevists a Bard thrashing, if the latter do not try to refrain from further interference with Church meetings. Mr. says that he does not like to be
· Fffered as acting as a Christian. but only as a citizen of the Republic whose duty to maintain the constitutional right to religious freedom. To thrash the Bolshevists, may not be a very good, Chris- tian example, but He thinks that these agitators should be given a lesson.

THE MERCHANTS' VOLUNTEERS.
The Merchants Volunteers in Canton, A public оп January 2nd, issued statement that they would refuse 10 cognize the present sale by the Kuomin tang Beds of Tohinteer property and tha they expect to re-establish themselves soon in Canton.. Since "Black Wednes- day October 13th, 1994, when the Kuo- mintang Reds Tolected the Volunteers for opposing the BoLevistie method of dealing with Canton affairs, they have confiscated everything tangible from the Volunteer barracks and individual mem- bers, and have been offering many of the So far no Volunteer buildings for sale.
one tins dared to acquire any real pro- perty belonging to the Volunteers,
THE FAR EASTERN OLYMPIAD.. In preparation for the tth Far Eastera Olympiad next May, the Canton athletes will hold their 9th annual Fied and Track Meets next March 16th-19th or the cam- pus of Kwangtung University. Mr. Chau Lu, M.P president of Kwangtung University, and Mr. Kan Teeng Ching acting president of Chaton Educational Association, have been elected chairman and vice-chairman respectively of the of the General Committee in charge of
University Meet.
Kwangtung The authorities will enlarge their track to 4 yayds. In former years the Canton athletes had the use of the East Parade Ground, but since the return of Dr. San Tat Sen to power in Canton in January, 1923, the Bolshevists have sold many public grounds and buildings in order to well Dr. Sun's Kuomintang war chest, and among the public places sold was the East Parade Ground.
THE EXPORT OF RICE
It is officially arounced that the In- spector-General of Customs at Peking bas sanctioned the export of rice from the port of Canton. For the last few decades in Canton, the export of rice has been prohibited, as Kwangtung pro vince itself has insufficient rice for local consumption. In spite of local protest, however, the Bolsheviste now dominating Canton recently repealed the embargo on consideration of $500,000 paid to the war chest of the parts. The Canton Compis- sioner of Customs at arst refused to pass the rice for export, but when the matter was referred to Peking the Inspector- General conarmed the action of the local Government authorities.
