STARTED BY SAILOR IN 1901.

The rapid rise of a Chinese shipping company during the past few years, to a point where it is now firmly established and able to compete with Japanee lines in the constwise trade. is outlined in the current issue of the Chinese GovernI~ ment's Bulletin of Economics.

Its net profits for 1923 amounted to $383.339, though lust year was considered a bad year for ship ping business, partly due to the unfavour able coalitions of the money market in the Far East.
