THE INCOMPARABLE PICTURE OF THE SEASON

DIANA KARENNE

IN

"THE MARTYR QUEEN

66

Of the many elaborate film reproductions of the French Revolution which have been submitted to the public within recent years, this production is the most ridtable and the best. The gorgeous- negs, stupendousness and sheer artistry in direc- tion baffles description. Its tenderness, beauty of thought and treatment. Its tremendous soal- gripping theme and magnificent character por- trayals will stir spectators as they have never been moved before.

The dominating personality and dramatic genius of the beautiful Diana Karenne makes this screen masterpiece a production of unusual interest 'and attraction.

WOMEN WHO NEVER MARRT,

Women:

THE TWO KINDS.

[BY HENRIETTE. PEADONARD.]

There are two sorts of unmarried

those who remain single for ahoice, and those who remain single be cause there are not enough men to go round. Of the first category I am not concerned. The girl bachelor is no un cominon phenomenon these days, and the slur of celibacy passed with the close of the Victorian era. But what about the young pretty and affectionate girl who has her dreams of married happiness, but who get becomes middle-aged with out finding the man of her dreams! Hers is the tragedy of a state of things which condemns every year numberless to enforced spinster elegible women

because there hood. They don't are not enough to go round! And, for some queer reason, to add to the plight of these nemated girls. widows bave a habit of marrying twice. and so of doing their poor sisters out of yet another chance of happiness. Waste is always pitiable. But what waste is comparable with the waste of human love, capacity for self-sacrifice and service!

A friend recently remarked to me: "Yes, but the girl who has got the making of a mate always, wherever she is, finds her man. Absolutely untrue I know of several cases myself. In one the girl suffers with an unconquerable shyness. She fell in love with an eligible attracted towards her, man. He was But nothing came of it. Afterward from both I heard the explanation. She explained, in a moment of confidence, that she just couldn't let the man see how much she cared for fear he did not recipiate her affections. He said that he had, indeed. been in love with her. but had rome disheartened by her apparent coliness and rebuffs of his at vances. In the end he came to the con- clusion that she did not care married another WOTBAN, and was perfectly happy

There is no greater or more pitiable tragedy than that of the woman, mould- ed ly nature fur wifehood and mother- hood, who is sentenced to solitary life. Such were never bloom. They turn Sour. Nothing else can take the place of Mr & Mrs Boiker the mate-wh nover

materialized. Mr & Mrs Chambers Their capacity for love becomes Mr & Mr A. E. 4. ment. The knowledge of what might

Carleton have been tortures them in the night watches. In the end they become, just *Old Maids. You will find them in the boarding houses and hotels of a hundred cities; you will find them in every pity in Europe. They have but one preoccu pation: they are trying to forget to for- get the dream man and the dream children who will nacer, never live. They are haunted by the kisses that were never impressed upon their lips, by the tiny hands that never clung about their necks.

But they are inevitable; for there are not enough men to go round-and some must be left to pass unfulfilled and empty.
