WORLD'S EXPORTS. BRITISH INDIA FOURTH ON QUARTERLY LIST

Great Britain has the highest Egures. of any country in the world for imports, according to the Board of Trade repart dealing with the first three months of this year, which gives comparisons be tween the trade and commerco of certain foreign countries, and of the Britain roS-, sessions.

Figures of foreign countries are based on the average rate of "exchange, and, some big figures are disclosed. Import, during the three months into the coun- tries selected for return are headed by Great Britain with £202,450,000 and U.S.A. with £291,345,000. It is a curious fact that the figures for imports into France and Germany are almost identi cal. They are: France £108,804,000, Germany £108,708,000.

In the matter of domestic exports for the first quarter of this year the United States Came

first with a total of £251,301,000 and Great Britain was second with £183,313,000. France export ed goods to the value of £116.789,000. British India (by sea) came fourth with £78,639,000 and Germany fifth with £74,607,000.

many business men are misled by the low terms foreign countries offer because of the depreciated exchange.

Great progress could be made if all classes agreed immediately upon the steady reduction of State expenditure on unremunerative schemes; upon some system of price or profit regulation to see that middlemen and others do not pocket the advantage of tax reduction the adoption of every eficiency method in British industry fall service for each pound of wage or salary: and the direction of capital to the central in- dustries on which we depend

Pressure of foreign competition will soon override hesitation in adopting these schemes,

PILOTLESS PLANE. FALLS INTO SEA OUT OF CONTROL

The Air Correspondent of the Daily Jail writing last month said:

The veil has been lifted unintention- ally from secret air experiments at Whale Island, in Portsmouth Harbour, In the control by wireless of small pilot less acroplanes.

One of the machines was flying on Fri- day and apparently it passed beyond tho control of the ground operator, and set off on its own account on a pilotless flight. It came down in the sea off Bog- nor, nearly 20 miles from its starting point. When it was seen floating in the water on Saturday fears were expressed for the supposed pilot, and there was considerable surmise about his fate until it became known that the craft was pilot leas. When the machine passed tempor out of control the Selsey coast arily guards were asked to look out for it. British experimental work on wireless control in the air has been going on since 1015. In the United States a pilotless aeroplane has been flown for nearly 100 miles by wireless. The flying bomb,' A machine carrying a load of explosives, can be controlled from a ground-station and made to fall in any area.

WET SUMMER LOSSES. Insurance against weather risks has not proved remunerative during this wet summer states a London wire. The Derbyshire County Cricket Club profited to the extent of £500, the difference be- tween the gate receipts and the sum insured in connection with half a dozen matches. Other claims paid under cies were in regard to the Yorkshire Hampshire match at Harrogate, the contests at Buxton, the feto at Worksop

the Agricultural Show at Worsley, the Lancashire regattast Stopham, and the pony race meeting at Dundea. The manager of one insurance company told a Prossman that weather policies were becoming more popular every year, and much business was done on the Continent. Tho policies taken out in Norway were invariably for sing- ing contests, and those for Crooho Blovakia were for race meetings.",

A happy good nature

If everyone did a bit towards making condi tions better for others less fortunate, there would be more happy people, sir.

I could have kept my discovery of Kensitas to myself, sir, but I wouldn't have been happy.

I simply have to tell you that Kensitas is the only cigarette to satisfy a gentleman of your discriminating taste, sir.
