The P. & C. x8. Peshouta (1,004 tons gross) was inward bound and making for her berth, opposite the Shanghai and Hongkew Wharf, picking up her moor ingat No 6 buoy. The tide at the time was on the ebb. and somehow or other the vessel got out of hand and foyled the bows of the Blue Funnel str. Jutolycus, (nbout 5,000 tons gross) which was lying inoored at No. 3 buoy. The hawsers which held the atolyens to her head buoy were out by the impart, with the result the steamer swung across the Huangpu toward the Pooting side. The stern moorings failed to stand the strain and snapped also. so that the ship drifted helplessly towards the shore. It was impossible to raise enough steam: in the very short space to be covered in order to bring the ship up, and she drifted broadside un to two Norwegian cable ships and the Customs cruiser Haishing, all of which were moored alongside their wharves on the Pootung side. There was a good deal of rending Iand tearing, and when the ships were sorted out and got back to their respec ive positions, after a good deal of trouble, it was found that all had sus tained damage. principally "to structure and deck fittings.
The has since gone into lock for repairs. but it is understood the other vessels In the can be repaired where they are collision two huoys broke loose and were seen floating down the river, and in this connection mariners are warned that No. buoy head and stern momings are out of position. Efforts are being made to get the moorings repaired and put into position again as soon as possible. "It is further stated, though there is no official corroboration, that a Chinese cargo boat was sunk in the collision. The cable ships involved were the .. Pocife, and 5. Vordinke.
