PARIS FASHION NOTES. [FROM OUR SPECIAL CORRESPONDENT, - FRABEL RAMSAY.}
ON BATHING COSTUMES.
PARIS, August 11th.
ol Beach clothes are at present cue the most important garments in the mind of the Parisienne. The beaches of Deau.. ville, Trouville, le Touquet, and Biarritz are crowded, and appearing well dressed' for the bath is as importaus as appears ing well dressed for dinner. The story of the lady who sleparted for a fashion- able beach with half of her wardrolo hundred and twenty bath- composed of ing suits which packed into one suit case is perhaps a little exaggerated but is contains a grain of truth. A variety of bathing suits and beach suits is very important to the woman who intends to appear well dressed on the beach. Add to this a variety of beach wraps and a Bourt appearance is assured.
The simplest of bething costumes is the knitted millst, or tights These are sleeveless, droolté, and short as to their lower boundary. They may be of cotton for wel or silk, but needless to say the silk ones are the smartest, just as silk stockings are the smartest. For the wo- man whose figure is youthful and some thing approach perfect these costumes ace the happiest. Women who are not so wear the knitted fortunate prefer to costumes which have a diminitive skirt kuitted on to the tights jast at the hip line. These skirts stop just short of the ends of the tights and do the office of creating a straight silhouette on woman who is not abschately girlish in The skirt. being a slight thing does not prejudice the efficiency of the woman in swimuning, and certainly adds becominguess to the costume.

For those who do not care for the trying simplicity of the knit sait, as for those who like variety, the textile bathing suits are created. These usually have us their foundation one of the knit suits while the textile will supply the over- dress, which need not be particularly ample, but will give a little more defuite line of its own than do the tights. One charming suit of scarlet inffeta banded with black and white plaid taffeta. The skirt, the sleeves, the neck, are all edged with the checked material which gives a sort of dressed appearance, even with the brevity of a bathing suit.

There. are restauraunts and cafes along the beach where one goes in-beach robe and suit to drink and eat and chat, and then, one returns to the beach. It is probably the most eciapopolitan beach in the world Bulgarias princesses, Greek hudies, Young Turk wives, Scandinavians in search of the sun at a time when their country is covered with snow, Anerio dollar princesses, German munitions barons (in disguise), Russian exiles, who have, in their good days been able to invest in Western stocks, South Ameri- cans and Italian and French countesses mingle on the wide, smooth beach in the most informal fashion. Bathing "jewelry" is the last word in bench smurtness, and though one might izgine that coral and pearls would com- pose the jewels for ocean wear (thus giving! then two precious materials a chance to revisit their old home) one would br quite mistaken. Beach jewelry is more practical than that. It floats and is is made of hollow rubber which goes to make bangle braedicts of the brightest colours, necklaces of large beads, neck- laces of rubber flowers, like the Hawaien have been amated in striking reds or "lei" or strings of cork beads which greens or bites.
