SASMA AQUATIC SPORTS.

SUCCESSFUL FUNCTION AT

STONECUTTERS,

The first annual aquatic sports and swimming gala of the Ex-Active Service Men's Association were held on Saturday on the "Ensma" beach, Stonecutters' luland, and the large concourse of peopto, who assembled on the beach during the afternoon spoke volumes for the popular" | ity of the bench, considerably more than 300 people being present.

The matshed on the beach wazogaily bedecked with flags and bunting and the Committee in charge of the arrangements are to be congratulated on the success of their plans for the comfort and conveni- ence of their patrons. There was a liberal supply of cool and refreshing drinks whilst tea was served on the beach during the course of the afternoon,

Despite the large numbers present, the ... 12 entries for the various events were ama!!. the afternoon being much too hot for serious racing. The more humourana events, such as walking the grassy pole, the musical life-huoys and the sausage race, provided lots of fun. For the pur- pose of the aquatic sports n lighter, kindly lent for the occasion hy the RAS.C., was moored close to the beach, and the swiping course extended from the lighter and parallel to the matched.

For the small children the Committee thoughtfully provided a bran tub on the beach and all those under the age of five years were granted the privilege of having dip into the tub wherein were con- tained many delightful little presents.

At the conclusion of the sports Dr. Fenton, an honorary member of the Club, in calling on little Miss Patricia Mac- Reynolds (daughter of the Hon. Secre- tary, who was unavoidably prevented from 14. Gregory (8.) ... 15 attending) commented on the scarcity of entries and jokingly said that though he was many years older than the average member of the "Association he, himself, would have entered for the Gentlemen's race if only he had brought his bathing costume with hiin. (Laughter.)
