The following notes on the markets are from the fortnightly report of the Hong-RESERVE FUND kong General Chamber of Commerce:-

Cotton Picer Goods and Fancy Cotton Goods. Market remains unchanged. Small sales of white shirtings, ex stock, are re- ported at rates below replacing costs. Price for American Cotton has declined but Lancashire manufacturers, do not thew any disposition to reduce cloth prices proportionately. There was slight improvement in clearances during the early days of the month but this has not been maintained, owing to fresh dia. turbances, and Political uncertalety, in neighbouring provinces.

Cotton Yarn-After a period of inac tivity which lasted over two months, a moderate business was put through dur ing the fertight under review, an im- provement of $1 to 85 per bale. Latterly, however, owing to the rise in Rupee cz change prices ruled easier.
