COMPANY MEETING.
EASTERN TELEGRAPH CO..
The annual meeting of the Eastern Teles graph Co., Ltd., was held on June 24th at Electra House. Aloorgate," London, EC. CBR Denison-Pender, - Sir John K.C.31.G. (chairman of the company). presided, and first referred in sympathe tie teras to the death of two directors-*. Viscount Pirrie and Sig Nibert J. Lepine Cappiel-the former having jing the hoard in 1908 and the latter in 1958,
Turning to the report, the chairman said that at the last meeting he w.non- ed that the trade depression which had so adversely affected their message receipts showed no signs of improvement, and also that the directors and administration were which reviewing possible channels through economies might be effected. These two statements had been realised, for the accounts under consideration showed a net reduction in gross reverve of about $47.000. against which, he was pleased 30 say, there had been the substantii reduction in the working, expenses of
bo
one. The net profit was, therefore. only
11,000 less than in the preceding year-a result which, in view of al, the circumstances, he thought sight dermed satisfactory. They were paying the same dividend us for the prevails four years (10 per cent., free of tax, and of had been able to make a entibution £0.000 to the general reserve fund "aud to carry forward to next year's accounts £51,000 odd. Regarding the decrease of 247,000 in the revenue; he reniarked that.
certain amount of it might be atori Rated to the reopening of the Indo-Euro pean Telegraph Co.'s overland route to. India and the remainder to trade depres- siup spread over the whole of the com pany's system. ""
A new service of reduced rate telegrams was introduced on September 1st last. known as Daily Letter Telegrams, and, so far as they had been able to judge up to the present, these had had little adverse effect on the full rate and deferred traffe. Nothing bad transpired since they last met to alter in any way the opinion which he had previously expressed concerning wireless. He thought the stockholders should not he unduly alarmed, and be pointed out that the Associated Cable Companies found themselves to-day, as the result of conservative policy through- out, with substantial reserves, both, dis closed and undisclosed, enabling them to carry out any additions and improvements on their world-wide system, without he hoped, having to add, in the near future at any rate, to the capital account.
The report and accounts were unani- mously adopted.
UNEMPLOYMENT INSURANCE
FOR BANKS.
The Labour Correspondent of the Times writes:-The interesting anbouncement appears in the Ministry of Labour Giselle that the Minister fireposes to make an order approving a special scheme of unemployment insurance for the banking industry. The Act of 1990 perinitted separate industries to con- 'tract out' of the general insurance scheme. Several reasons of which the principal was the depression of trade. combined" to hinder the presentation of special schentes. The insurance industry prepared one which was sunctioned and put in force. and the banking industry submitted a,draft scheme before the pass- ing of the Act of 1911 which suspended the power of the Minister to approve or make special schemes during the period of insolvency of the insurance fund. It was, however, provided that this section of the Act should not apply to any draft scheme alrely submitted for approval. The schrine for the banking industry was the only one" to which the exemption ap plied, and it, up to now, has retained in abeyance. The Act of 1920 requires that a special scheme must (1) cover all persous employed in the industry; and (2) provide benefits, of the whole, not less. favourable than those provided under the genrral scheme. The State contribution in respect of the individuals insured under such a scheme is on a reduced- scale. The administration must be a joint body of employers and employed. If the proposed. Act permitting special scheunes which is now before Parliament is carried the application of the prin- ciple of insurance by industry, will b limited to insurance and banking.

The Day of the Knight is Here !
IT IS THE
WILLYS-KNIGHT
Simplest and most trouble-free type of motor ever invented.
It has the most distnctive and gracefully balanced body of any
in the market.
Car
1.-The Willys-Knight car is the four cylinder motored car that makes the six
annecessary.
The Knight motor is steam prinsiple. The valves are two cylindrical sleeves with rectangular elote or ports which when they register with each other and the ports in the block allow the ingress and egress of the gases without obstruction. These wide open passages, particularly on the exhaust side, permit a more thorough cleaning of the barnt gases from, the combustion chanter than any other type of motor, so that every ounce of energy available is atilized from the explosive mixture, which gives us such tremendous power
2-It has no, valve to grind and no carbon to clean."
The combustion chamber is completely surrounded by water and an alloy piston noted for its guest hea radiating qualities is used so neither the combustion chamber nor the head of the piston gets hot enough to bake the residue from the exposed gases to form carbon while there is still enough heat maintained to handle the explosiv mistare effectively.
3-It is the only type of motor that improves with use.
While carbon, can not forma in the combustion chamber, still a certain amount of the residue from the barst gases works up behind the wide sealing ring in the cylinder head and, as this building in process obtains, it koups. Compression chamber pushing this sealing ring more tightly against the inner sleeve until it completely seals the developing more power with every mile the motor is drawn..
4-It is the only type of motor that wears in while other wears out.
A
All parts in the Willys-Knight car are assembled with wide clearance between each other and oil is forced into these clearances ander heary pressure so that the entire assembly in lapping or wearing in on these beary filon of oil instead of wearing out. In other words, every bearing in this uptor is an ail bearing instead of a metal to metal. bearing which is necessary in the construction of a poppet valve motor in order to keep it quiet with subsequent quick

It has eliminated one hundred and sixty two quick wearing parta necessary in the operatico of a cylindered poppet valve motor. There are no hammering parts such as can striking against push rods, push rods against valve stems, or Talve heads mapping back into theix seats through the medium of heavy springs, sle
