Lord Howart: Lord Chief Justice. said he had tried to abtain the opinions on this subject of the King's Beich judges who were also judges of the Court of Criminal Appeal. He bad not had the opportunity of consulting all bix rolleagues, but of the 12 whom he had cousulted to were, like himself, m phatically opposed to the Bill, one was emphatically in favour of it, and one was doubtful.
Lord Haldane. the Lord Chancellor.)
opposed the Bill, remarking that the question which it was now proposed to submit to a jury was not a fair our for them.
Lord Cave, ex-Lord Chancellor, felt that if the Bill were passed many criti- uals who to-day were punished might raca panishment.

CURATIVE POWER OF
THE SUN..
SWISS MIRÁCLES,”
At a sitting of the first International Health Conference, organized by the People's League of Health, at Webley. last month. Sir Henry Ganvtin. intro dacing Dr. Rollier to the conference, said- that they had all been inspired and com pelled to admiration by his work at the Etablissements Héliothérapiques de Ley sin. Switzerland. While it was true that no nation had loved the three elements of air, light and water "more than the British people, their true significance was only now being recognized.
Dr. Roilier, who spoke in French, addressing the conference on "Le rôle du soleil contre la tuberculose," said that the presence of eminent British doctors at the conference was evidence that the British programme was identical with that of his country. Ur. Rollier explain- ed that it was not merely the nitra-violet rays of sunlight that were beneficial; numerous experiments, had proved that the whole light was needed, and that this light, by absorption in the blood, became a reservoir of circulating hergy, rein- forcing the defensive powers of the body, and thus tending to produce. immunity from disease.
.
REMARKABLE CURZE.
The skin, which, far from being merely an organ of proiretion, also was an organ of respiration. notrition, and elimina tion, had been atrophied in large x- tent by the wearing of unhygiene clothes. Tuneffnet of the direct action of the air and sun upon the skin was to produce greatly. izérensed resistaner to disease. It resulted in greater musqular develop nent in improvement to the whole fram. In no direction was the remark- hble curative power of the sun more ap parent than in cases of surgical tuber culosis. tr. Hollier exhibited many fan- term-slides showing enses before and after bis treatment which furnished the most striking proofs of his statement. In the fira iristaner, patients afflicted with every form of tuberculosis-some tremely terrible-were shown, while Inter pictures showed the astounding complete. nury of the cure.
+x-
The sun, said Dr. Rollier, was the finest disinfectant known: in addition, it was a wonderful instrament of moral re- generation, which fact could be observed from the change in the patient's'expres. sion. Whatever the cause of this moral renuissance might boj, it was incontest- able. It was to be hoped that further institutions for the application of light! and air to tuberculosis, would he set up. Once the cure wan effected, however, the struggle against relapse must not be ung- Jeeted; and, here again, light and air were the two essential factors. If it were possible to settin those who were cured, (Continued on next column.)
