THE NEW SOCIALISM.
Tas Bill for the nationalisation of mines. which the House of Commons rejected by a majority of ws secured the support of Mr. Ramsay MacDONALD and his Cabinet colleagues in the Division Lobby. It was freely said that to suit the convenience of the Government the measure was intro duced this year as a Private, Memper's Bill, but it is to all intents the same measure as the Parliamentary Labour Party introduced into the House of Commous on March 5th, 1923. The names of the promoters of the Bill last year and thuse in the Divisioni list on this meen- sion show quite "plainly that the Govern- ment are committed to the principles of ationalisation of the mines. However, the House of Commons would not have the Bill, as the puting proved in the plainest possible manner. Mr. LLOYD Gmage had a large part in killing the proposal. He made what is described as the best speech heard in recent years in Parlament against nationalisation. In the urst place he pointed out at the owners of mining rorities would get nothing by Way of conipeatation, which is, of course, Sneiälism on Bolshevist lines.
