ForMurian. May 7th. The King of the Belgians has paid a sighal tribute to the citizen soldiers of "Great Britain by unveiling at Messines à monument to the London Scottish. The MARTELL & CO.ral, which stands on the crest of the famous Alumides Kaige between- Messines and Wytschaete, marks the furthest point reached by the London Scotesh during the battle of October 31st and November 1st, 1914. There is little about the "present appearance of Ridge to recall the hundred glorious fights of which it was the scene, wither" side of it -tretches a green and well-tilled country dotted with the d brick of nesely built farms and cottages.. Messines itself has risen a frin neat wil lage of red brick from the smoking ruins. of the war, and a good fint rond now runs along the saddlehack of ground for the possession of which so many gallant soldiers gave their lives during the struggle for Ypres. Kemmel Hill, stolid witness of so many scenes of tragedy and Feroism, looks now over landscape from which the forces of man and nature have almost obliterated the ugly scars of war. The London Scottish Memorial has been erected on the roadside facing the hill, and looks down upon the way by which those it commemorates advanerd.. It is in the form of a Celtic cross of Alierdeen granite set up on a mound in such fashion that, as seen from the rond, it stands clear on the skyline the most dis- tinėtive landmark of Messines Ridge THE REV. GUAPRASĖR'S NEW APPOINTMENT, The new Chiversity College which the Gold Coast Government is establishing at a cost of B250,000 on a site covering. nearly four square miles outside Accra is to have as its first Principal the Rev. A. G. Filler," the present Principal of Trinity College, Kandy. Mr. Fraser, who is son of the late Sir A. I. L Fénser, K.US.I., was born at Tillicoultry, and was educated at Merchiston. After being travelling secretary of the Student Volunters Missionary Movement, ho worked for some years under the Church Missionary Society m Uganda before going to Kandy in 1904. Interviewed be fore he left for six weeks' stay in Ceylon to complete his work there, Mr. Fraser- stil that he hoped to make the new Uni- versity College a microcosm of up-to- date ducation in Africa right from the kindergarten stage to that of a Univer xity and teachers' training college, Mr. Fraser, who has written largely on edu cational questions in the East, was in 1922 chairman of the important Commis- sion on Village Education in India.

The Scottish visitor to Belfast feels quite at home. He might be in another Glasgow.
