SEASIDE AIR BOATS.
CHEAP MACHINE WHICH WILL DO 68 MILES AN HOUR.
An essential feature of the pational scheme to form cheaply run flying clubs is to be the foundation of senside as well as inland clubs, writes the Air Corres pandent of a London paper.
A tiny air-boat for use by seaside flying clubs is being built by Messrs, Short Brothers, pioneers in the construction of metal aeroplanes. It will carry a singlu occupant in a comfortable little cockpit in its boir, and is driven by two motor- cycle-type engines similar to those which did so well at the Lympne motor-glider
tests.
The boat-bell of the machine is of light. weight inetal alloy and abare" it is single lifting wing, having a span of 36ft.. The two little engines are fixed on the top of this plane, and drive a couple of screws mounted in front of the wing. The mucino is expected to be able to reach 68 miles an hour, and its cost and upkeep expenses will be low.
The scheme now before the Ait Ministry proposes that light 'planes for inland clubs and simple little air-boats for seaside use should be presented free to approved clubs, it being expected that the members will join the Royal Air Foren Reserve.
