In first thoughts it may appears to be very distressing to think that, in view of human nature being what it is, it is unlikely that any antidote against the war bug will ever be found; but is not war, after pil, merely one of nature's ways for restricting the over-population of the earth's surface? There seem to he but two other alternatives, mely discase or starvation. Some people might suggest birth control as a remedy, but am dealing here with nature's ways apart from artificial means.
DT AND DISEASE,
A somewhat cynical friend of mine living in Chita once remarked to mo that although the birth rate in that country. was enormous, the one saving grace was that dirt and disease helped to keep the population from increasing to the point at which there would be insufficient food

War and starvation do, of course, ac count for many thousands of deaths in the Middle Kingdoin, even as it is, but if it were not for the myriads killed by dirt and disease the population would soon be brought within limits once more by means of starvation: What is true in regard to China also holds good for Capt. de C. Lariag the rest of the world and the whole question resolves itself into the fact that;
if you do away with wars. Nature will:

Some three or four years ago, when Mr& Mis# Ạ. J. relations between Japan and America Mr & Mr W. Austin were bomewhat strained, a Japanese W. Bernett friend of mine said he advocated war befant T. L. Japan was defeated, it would only be after the loss of so many of her soldiers that there would remain no ̈question of surplus population to solve.
