The China Section of the Manchester Chamber of Commeres held a meetilig on April 14th to receive a report from the China Executive on the Chinese Trade Marka Law. Mr. J. Rankine Finlayson, chairman of the Section, explained that

The forcast for the 2 hours ending at 18 the Executive had boén meeting constant-hour, May 19th is for fellowa-- ly during the last three months to deal w „Duruer with this matter.. He referred to the un-

Formos satisfactory reph of the Chinese GOTETIP ment to a note by the Diplomatic Body in Peking. In the circumstances the law was not being recognised by the British Goy ernment, with whom the Manchester Chamber had been in close touch through... out. It was "understood, further' repre- sentations were not to be made to the

Chinese Government in view of their refusal to adopt those already, mude.

The Chairman said it was the intertion of the British Minister and the Govern- ment

to watch carefully the administra tion of the law, and to take action when ever British interests were involved, with a view to maintaining the rights which British subjects enjoyed under the treaties with China, In view of the facts, the executive recommended the members not to register their marks under the Chinese law. If anybody sought to register marks belonging to British firms notice would appear in the Chinese Trade Mark Jourant, which is to be published in China, and under Article 28 the British firms would be able

to protest through diplomatic, channels within six months. The rights and privileges attached to prior user were admitted in the Chinese law (in Article 3), and it was felt that diplomatic action
