The Milling Industry of the Port of Liverpool is the second largest in the World and is only exceeded by that of Minneapolis, USA. The importance of Liverpool in the Cotton, Tobacco, Pro- vision, Corn, Fruit, Tinler, and Sugar Trades is known all over the world.

It may be interesting to point out that f the first lock in the world was built in 1715 at Liverpool, since when its example has been universally followed, at all events at those porta where there! is any appreciable rise and fall in the tide. That original dock has, during the many intervening years, grown into the magnificent system of docks now exist ent at Liverpool and Birkenhead. The Port has not been conteul to rest on its achievements, but is ever. extending its all round facilities.

Liverpool has always been a pioneer in those directions which have meant so mich to the progress of commerce and civilisation. For instance, the first rail- way constructed in England was built be tween Liverpool nur East Lancashire: the first canal cut. in England joined Liverpool with the Lancashire town of St. Helens; the first steamship to cross the Atlantic sailed from this Port.

When tyres are under inflated there is continual internal friction between the foundation cord and the rubber, causing overheating of the tyre and consequent rapid, deterioration.

Water can also enter causing rust, resulting eventually in the rims having starp edges which cut the walls of the tyre near the head.

Most cars in Hongkong run on under inflated tyres with the above disastrous results. Have your wheels examined front and rear for trueness and tracking alignment. If they are at fault in this respect the tread of the cover is subject to a grinding action which quickly destroys the cover.
