A new racing record for "Hongkong was set up yesterday afternoon at the second day's rating of the second extra meeting. Rothesay late Ramsbury, late Roman Pride) covered the half-mile in the race for the Banstead Plate in 58.4-51ecs. which is 1-5acc. better than the previous best. It is nine years since the distance was last covered in 505ces, when Mr. Cunninghan's Jed, carrying 150 ha, did it is the time stated. Rothesay was rid- den by Mr. Zellensky and his performance is all the more creditable in view of the weight the pony was carrying (165 lbs.). Other, ponies which have done the half mile in 58sces. are Mr. Buxey's Hard Times, 15 lbs. (1504), and Capt.. Far- quhar's lavieta, 159 lbs. (1911).
The racing at yesterday's meeting was good. There were not many upsets, the most notable being King Canute's failure to get a place in the fifth race. He was a hot favourite, but the disappointment from the owner's point of view was some- what lessened in that his stable cam- panion King Alfred-not much fancied- very nearly snatched a surprise victory in the same rare, only to he beaten by a short head by Lady Severn's Durian,
The most successful stable at the meet- ing was Messrs. Dyer and Beith's whose ponies registered five wins on the two days' racing. Mr. Zellensky was the most successful rides, having five wins to his credit for the two days.
The weather was delightfully fine and very warm
