The volume of business transacted during the past week has been on a fair scale restricted somewhat by the Settie ment which took place on the 25th inst., but at the close the market shows a tendency to improve, due no doubt to a natural reaction after the negotiation of a large Settlement, and prices are in most cases higher.
Banks-Hongkong and Shanghai Banks have strengthened and are in demand at $1,100. The Lordon price remains un- altered at £120.10 (middle).
Marine and Fire Insurances.- nians have been deal in at 8211/8248. China Underwriters have changed hands at $1.10. Cantons at $713, North Chinas at Tls. 140 Yangtsze's at $27, Chinn Fires at $115 and Hongkong Fires at $555 are saleable, at quotations.
