By defeating the Kowloon Cricket Club by 45 runs on Saturday the Hongkong-Hagen Cricket Club have established themselves

as winners of the first league for this Season with points against the Uunver- sity's 10 as runners-up.

Spectators were provided with quite an exciting afternoon's sport. The visitors, though they have not done at all well this Season, surprised their opponents by coming within an ace of defeating them, bat thanks to the bright display of clean. hard hitting at a critical stage in the game, by A. V. T. Dean, who scored a good all round 91, the match and the league honours were unde sofe.

Batting first, the visitors were all out for 80. In their reply the home side made a ad start, four wickets going down fur 36 runs. Dean (third man is) was the unly batsman to stand up to the He remained at the wicket howling. until the in-inga was closed and com- piled 1 out of the 125, runs scored. He hit 14 fours and two sixes and did not give a chance until after reaching 10. The remaining batsmen were disiniased cheaply.

NINTH ANNUAL MEETING.

The isth anual sports meeting of St. Joseph's College was held on the Race Course Chy kind permission of the Hongkong Jockey Club) on Saturday afternoon, when some very fine rachig was witnessed. The outstanding per- formance was that of a young Japanese named Y. Hachiuma, who won the junior championship of the College for the second year in succession in a very deci I sive manner, gaining full points. the 90 yards junior championship ho did the distance in the same time (25 seconds) as that of J. Cassumbhoy, who won the senior championship in the senior event.

The Rev. Brother Director of the Col- lege (Brother Aimer) in asking Mrs. de Morgan to present the prizes, which were many and valuable, remarked that entries this year constituted record. Mrs. de Morgan was the recipient of a beautiful bouquet of flowers contained in a silver holder and tied with the school colours,

Amongst the large attendance at the were noticed Mr. N. Teesdale sports Mackintosh, MJ. M. Alves and Mr. de Morgan.

The position of affairs in the second league is that the Royal Engineers and the Navy second strings are fighting it out for the premier position in the league. The Engineers at present head the league with 30 points, having played, 15 matches, lost one and drawing threa with, one match to play. The Navy have 28 points to their credit, but they have only play ed 1. losing one and drawing one. If the Navy win four out of their remain ing fire fixtures the Championship is secured to them. Their defeat last week at the University makes the nutcome appear uncertain, but in any case an in- teresting finish is promised."

The RE's. won this match with the wide margin of 206 runs, The H.K.C.C. went in first and were all out for 88, Hollanda (23), Nicholson (19) and MeAlpine (1) being the only three to get into double figures. The Royal-En- gineers in their reply compiled 296 for 8 wickets, including a very fine century (103 by Major Gandy, who as first man in retired undefeated). The remaining batsmen knacked up good average scores.
