The bleakest weather in the early hours OBTAINABLE EVERYWHERE. fared the exodus from hotel taurants in the West-end holding Lenp Year Balls. The roles of the sexes were reversed for the occasion, women order- ing the wine and cabs and paying hills. Prince's Restaurant provided a particu larly jolly entertainment securing a group of leading stage spinsters and cele brities to preside at separate tables over bachelor parties. Another happy and picturesque party was the Officers Ball at Aldershot.. attended by the Prince of Wales and Prince Henry. 300 couples danced to the accompaniment of a crack military band. The majority of the gentlemen were attired in scarlet hunt. ing kit.

SIR JOHN STEWART'S ESTATE. Lesbos, March 1st. The petition brought by Lady Stewart for the appointment of a judicial factor on the estate of her husband Sir John Stewart, the Dundee whisky distiller. who was recently found shot dead, was to-day mentioned in the Edinburgh Court. The petitioner stated that the de- censed's affairs were confused, but it was plain there was a large interest involved. The creditors were mainly banks and wine merchants, whose total claims ex- graded £700,000. There were also Grat bands on the estates at Firgask and Kinuird totalling £629,000, in addition to £15,000 on the estate at Inch Michael, The petitioner stated that the deceased was deeply involved in the affaire of an Edinburgh firm which voluntarily qui dated on February 5th.
Lord Murray granted the petition. BEHIND THE SCENES.
Losbox, March 3rd. A glimpse behind the scenes in Down- ing Street after the Labour Government's Erst taste of office is afforded by a speech of Mr. Graham at Bermondsey to-night when he declared that what had been done hitherto was no part of their Collectivist Socialist faith. They were: only beginning to find out what many problems of British industry and com- merce meant and accumulating mach useful information of the highest econo mic and social value, whereon to fight the next election. Their efforts to ex- tend the provisions of the, Trades Faci lities Act would demonstrate to people what could be done by effective use of national credit towards larger public ownership had democratic control. They could just touch several spheres, like old age pensions which alone cost several niillions, then appeal to the electorato add get a mandate and go further. Quer- tioned regarding allegiance. Mr. Graham We have 1 constitutional replied: monarch who abides by the advies of his ministers. We experienced no obstacle of any kind and that is the clearest, fairest answer I can give. (Cheers.)

HOW TO GET GOOD SERVICE FROM
MICHELIN TYRES.
tell
"
Keep tyres pumped up to correct pressure for the load they have to carry. We can you what this should be,
When tyres are under inflated there is continual internal friction between the foundation cord and the rubber, causing overheating of the tyre and consequent rapid deterioration.
1
Water can also enter causing rust, resulting eventually" in the rims having sharp edges which cut the walls of the tyre near the bead.
Most cars in Hongkong run on under inflated tyres with the above disastrous results. Have your wheels examined front and rear for trueness and tracking alignment. If they are at fault in this respect the tread of the cover is subject to a grinding action which quickly destroys the cover.
Keep tyres free from oil and grease.
Start and stop gently and take corners slowly.
Lastly buy MICHELIN tyres from us and follow the above advice and
tyre satisfaction is assured.
