DRAWN OUT GAMES IN THE OPEN

SINGLES,

In the open singles championship two matches were played of, Rumjahas figuring in both. Both matches wars drawn out to the last set and at times were "painfully slow. In the match between O. Rumjahn and S. H. Ismail it was just a case et long rallies of simple backhand and forehand driving until either one or the other drove the ball into the net or mylside the Court. Rum jahn was expected to win somewhat easily but sich was not the case. Ismail, got away, with the first two sets and Rumjahu had to fight hard to qualise which he did. In the East set he had a bad attack of cramp with handicapped his movements considerably, Still he pluckily carried on. The match was not duished darkness setting to before the final set could be completed. It is to be pinged.

On the next Court H. D. Rumijohn (O. Rupjahn's partner in the Open Doubles) met S. Fujita in the Open Singles, and here again it was a case of dull mono- tonous tennis. Fujita. considered the next best Japanese player to Honda, put ap a gun fight and took the first two setz. It was sonte time before Rursjahn could get used to Fujita's vary peculiar style of play, which amongst other things was left-handed. Ramjahu camin into his own in the last three sets which he took with ease.

"Mr. Remedios, giving evidence, sald that he was standing at the parcels counter when the defendant came up and pushed him. His suspicions were arous ed but as that moment the counter shroff called him and drew his attention away from the man.
