Taipo and his presence is causing aneasi ness among the people living in that dis trict. Traces of the animal have been found in the Lung Shan Valley behind Taipo, where on Sunday a shooting party of British residents, whilst beating up s the lower end of the Valley came across the remains of a wild boar, which, about 200 hs. in weight, from all appearances, The had heen killed by a wild animal. boar, however, had been deal some days The and had been partly devoured. animal wa disembowelled, a fact that suggest that it had been killed by a tiger, as tigers are believed to be the only species of carnivorous animals to disembowel their prey.
The finding of the dead bear" seemed to afford some confirmation of the fears of the natives expressed to the shooting party earlier in the day. When the shoot ing party set out in the morning it was their intention to beat up the Northern end of the Valley, but the natives, showed a very strong disinclination to venture in that vinicity, stating that a tiger had been seen there.
Our informant is firmly convinced that tiger has been in that vicinity but whe ther the animal is still there is another matter, as a tiger will travel many miles in a day is search of food.
ANOTHER TIGER REPORT. “ According to another report which reached Hongkong last night. a large number of cattle have been killed at Tsinsan, which, it is thought, is the work of a tiger.
The last occasion on which a tiger was seen in this vicinity dates back some yours. This tiger-afterwards bagged- was responsible for the death of Sergt. Goucher.
