Reconstruction in Yokohama, write a correspondent of the Japan Chronicle, is cortainly proceeding at a fair pace. One. commendable feature is the adoption of AuguORISED CAPTITAL roofs of a lighter construction than form SunSTRIAND AND PAID UF... erly used. In many cases, composition RESERVE FUND roofing is suployed. It is regrettable, however, that in most of the structures nothing larger than a 4 x 4 square pine is used for foundation beams. Indeed, only in buildings being constructed by foreigners have I noticed any bennus of larger size. It appears that a very large. perentage of the pine squares imported recently from the Pacific Coast consists of 4' x 4' material.

The Y. CA. C. Pavilion at Negishi lies in ruin. It was somewhat damaged by the first disaster, but the Committee had hoped to repair it. The shock of the 13th January, however, has put the building is a condition beyond repair. The only feasible measure now apparent to the Club is to erect a barrack for tens porary use.

MORE STEEL BUILDINGS FOR-YOKURAMA. Additions have been made to the num ber of steel buildings erected since the disaster. In one instance, Messrs. Struh- ler & Co. are the owners. Their build- ing is erected at No. 64, of Truscon type, with a concrete floor, and will be used as warehouse. The dimensions are DG ft. by 28 ft. Messrs. Sugawa & Co. have also in course of construction two steel build- ings of the Milliken type and of large dimensions, one to be used as
