Resolutions to wind up the longkong Tramway Company, Limited, were duly passed at meetings of shareholders held in London in October last, and that Com- pany is now in course of liquidation.. The shares of this Company bare "been distributed by the liquidator as prranged. The result of the year's working is very satisfactory. Traffic and miscellaneous receipts showed an increase of $924,874 over the previous year, whilst working expanses were 878,103 greater; the gross working profit was, thus 8115,481 higher. To attain this end, the cars ran an addi- tional 274,458 miles, and enrried 3,048,999 more passengers.

Six additional tranears were construct- ed last year, and a further six cars are now under construction. It is expected, that these further six cars will be com- pleted by July next, and we will then have 73 passenger tramcars, which will enable as to deal with the increasing trafic. The permanent roof to the double deck tramear, to which I referred last year, has proved very satisfactory, and is being fitted to all ears.

The plant has not yet been disposed of, and your directors have on doubt that when it is. considerable loss will be sustained. It is possible that the amount realised may be as much as $100,000 less than the look valce, and the amount of 850.00 is regarded as a first instalment of this probable loss, leaving the balance to be written off in the pre- sent year's accounts..

A claim has now been made, and although it is by no means certain that the Company will have to pay the full amount, the matter being still under consideration, your directors deem it prudent to provide for the con- tingency. No further liability will attach to this Company for either income tax or corporation profits tax when this claim is disposed of.

On the assets side of the balance sheet, the itcin of the investments is shown at the book value. These investments bave since been realised in order to provide funds for the payment of the dividend recommended. and a profit over book value of approximately $130,000 has accrued. This profit will appear in the present year's accounts.

The diversions of, and alterations to the Shaukiwan Road are in progress, and the Company will lay double track along the whole of the road from Causeway Bay to Shaukiwar as soon as it is possible to do so. The trafic on this route has in- creased considerably, and we are ham- pered in our efforts to provide an efficient

During the year the Government of Hongkong published particulars of their scheme for providing a tramway in Kowloon, and invited tenders for the right of providing an efficient service. 1 expect you are all well acquainted with the terms of the scheme, so it is unneces- sary for the now to refer to it in detail. Your directors considered the matter very carefully and submitted a tender. As far as I know the Government still has the tenders under consideration, have not yet heard from them.

The CHAIRMAN proposed, and Sir PAUL CHATER seconded, that the dividend of $1.75 per share recommended by the Directors be sanctioned and this was carried unanimously.

Mr. Ho LEUNG proposed, and Mr. GRIMBLE ACconded, that the retiring Directors, Sir Robert Ho Tung and the. Rev. Father Robert, be re-elected. The motion was carried unanimously.

ARTILLERY REORGANISATION. „

In compliance with a Royal Warrant, the Royal Horse Artillery, Royal Field Artillery and Royal Garrison Artillery will henceforth form one corps. It will include all artillery units of the Ter- ritorial Army and the local batteries and companies of Royal Artillery abroad. Enlistments will be for service in the Royal Regiment of Attillery. Since July, 1910, the Royal Regiment of Artillery bus consisted of two Horse Artillery apps (1) the Royal the Royal Field Artillery (including the Special Reserve, Royal Field Artillery) and the Royal Horse and Field Artillery units of the Territorial Army, and (2) the Royal Garrison Artillery, including the local batteries and companies of Royal Artil lery abroad, the Special Reserve, Royal Garrison Artillery, and the Royal Garri son Artillery units of the Territorial Army.
