A whisky worth pressing for

P.D. is an old old whisky, matured by time and mel- lowed in wood. The kind of whisky which is none too plentiful to-day.

If you cannot get it easily, make your demand a little more insistent, because you will find it worth pressing for.

SIGNS OF SPRING IN THE SOUTH.

PARIS. January th Immediately after the holidays everyone in Paris suddenly disappeared, bound oither for the monatain resorts of Cham- oi aix and Saint Moritz where sleding and skiing and skating are the chief day-time diversions, or for the Cote d'Azur, where Me and bathing and tennis are the order of the day. Both the mountain and the seaside resorts are crowded, and while Lannes is enlivening its season with a tennis

tournament, from which the intre- pid Miss Longlen has been forced to with. draw on account of sickness, Chamoinix has been inventing ice tennis to be played on skates. It is a merry seasod, and will probably be increasingly merry till every- one concentrates at Cances and Nice for Mardi Gras, which is consrerated to mas- querading andi gaiety all along the Azuro Const.

TI YOKOHAMA EPKONN BAXI,

Sports.costumes, as usual, are Bourish- ing, and while many a lady is to be seg atured in knickers with hardly antapology for a skirt above them, in the moastal resorts, we find the costumes for Southern wear more. feminine but equally sports

do adhere to man.lik The tennis togst certain conventionality, as do the walking clothes. However, there is a clever Eng Fsh tailer in Paris who has found a a menus of combining the comfort of the knicker. suit with the dignified lines of the con ventional skirt. She a accomplish this by making a divided skirt and superimposing upon this a wide front panel and a wide back panelso wide, indeed, that ther meet each other at the side of the skirt. Thu milady car walk with the longest stride that she can command and keep her afeader silhouette at the same time, and de the secret of the skirt remains hidden road detection o long as the wearer does uot step upon something at least as high as a chair. The suit is finished with a neat jack, simple and sharply defined in line, saved from the stigma of looking Hank

masculine" only be the extreme lowness at which the waist is pinched in.

A walking frock more feminine in line, has a series of godet pleats set into its front seton, and these serve to give the width gcosary for taking long walks in comfort. The frock is of heavy rope and has a white collar finishing its round neck. and circular white cuffs at the wrists of the long sleeves,

Iritot astumes are quite the mode, for the Cute d'Azur, and one sees a great many of them forming charming exsent ples of frock and cape. The smartest tricct costumes are knit to measure on the wearer, and often mingle silk, wool and metakie threads in charming, ocluur com- binations. Ofter, on the other hand, the costume will be perfectly plain except for bindings of bright coloured leather devetyne about the ages. A very pretty costume of this sort was kuit in a plain rib of tan wool and its edges were bound with laquer rel suede Another, cut from the broad knit jersey cloth, and binding of purple gines kid, and a belt of the pur- ple kid with ornaments of green and magenta kid dowers at the left side.

The

and

kait ensembles usually include frees cape, or frock and jacket. Sometimes they will be a three-piece suit, with wool jacket and skirt and

The scarf is appearing in a good many different

forms in the mid-season" styles. and one of the most charming was scen in an afternoon frock. A wide piece of the cornflower blue crepe de chine which made the frock had hea lined with white crepe de chine and set on to the neckline,
