A new treatment for leprosy, discovered by Sir Leonard Rogers, an authority on tropical diseases, and now being improved by Dr. Muir of Calcutta, has been so auccessful in India that specialists in tropical diseasen believe that by its means leprosy can be completely banished from rom the British Empire within a generation!

Hjar The British Empire Leprosy Relief Association, 21, Cavendish Square, W., was recently formed to make the cure Available to the 300,000 lepers in the Empire, of whom-about two-thirds are in India. The secretary of the associa tion. Mr. Frauk Oldrieve, who has spent six years among the Ladian lepers, stated recently:

"We now have the long-sought cure. and if we are enabled to use it in all cases of leprosy we can rid the Empire of this loathsome disease within 30 years. I have seen over 1,100 lepers treated with. Sir Leonard Rogers'a remedy, and whee I left India the majority were recover- ing.,

"The loper has a fearful life. The dis ense does not kill quickly. The average life of the patients after being infected is 14 years. During all that time they are frightfully disfigured, incapacitated 'for work, ostracised by friends, and re- garded as cursed by the gods.

"Of the 300,000 lepers in the Empire the great majority have nothing done for them at all. Where treatment avail- able crowds flock in, but not more than 20,000 can get treatment of any kind for want of funds,

"The object of our association is to provide hospitals, to train men for the giving of treatment, and to segregate the begging and pauper classes who spread infection.

There is no secret about the remedy;

it consists of chalmoogra, cod-liver and other oils, and is administered hypoder mically."

A meeting will be held at the Mansion House at the end of January for the purpose of raising the £250,000 neoded for treatment of all cases of leprosy in the Empire.
