GREAT EFFORT.

All Hongkong seemed to flock to the At Fresco Fete held last night in the compound of the Catholic Cathedral. During the afternoon, when chililter were, especially catered for, a brisk busi ness was done. but in the evening, from 30 p.m. to nearly midnight, the grounds were absolutely packed. The gross re ceipts are expected to amount to about $29,000.

Last night's Fete was the St. Vincent de Paul Society's 40th annual effort, and was under the patronage of His Excel- lency the Governor. Sic Reginald Edward Stubba, K.C.M.G. This year the Society) celebrates the 20th anniversary of its establishuicar in. Hongkong.

As others have dealt with the acting will now confine myself to the play. In the first place the idea is far from new: Samuel Butler's works are full of it. Still it is perhaps the first time machine-men have 'toed the boards.

To begin with Mr. Lucey explained at considerable length what Robots are That is "are" for the purposes of the play.
