SALE OF CROWN LAND:

FUNNY BIDDING."',

"The festurs of yesterday afternoon's Bale of Crown land was the vast difference in the prices realised for the first and Blth lots offered by the auctioneer (Mr. Parker Rece). Both lots had practically the same area, the former being almut 0,300 square feet and the latter 30.100 qture feet. The upset price in the ease of the intter was exactly $200 more than | "the former." On this basis one would have thought that the latter lot would have realised the better price; but it did not by hall. The first letched 265,800 and the fifth lot only $2,000-a difference of $37,300.

The matter secrand worthy of further investigation, and our representative was informed that whilst both lots, were i the same vicinity in Conduit Road the first he was much the better site, whilst the 6th would require a lot of money on the erection of retaining walls, etc., but it would not be explained why the upset price of the latter, which had a annuller aren should be more than the former. As a matter of fist our representative has his own idea on this matter and, he saw sufficient at the sale for him to form the ranchion that there was a lot of ring work going on after the Srst lot had been kourkest down which certainly had a dealing effect on the bidding. The purchaser of the first lot was the Hon. Afr. R. i. Kotewall
