LONDON, October 29th. The Staterman is authoritatively in formed to day that there is no truth in the rumour that General Birdwood, of Ausac fame, is likely to be appointed to a Governorship, in India.

In this connection, the Evening Stand ard and the Daily Shrich stated to-day that General Birdwood is to succeed. Sir Edward Maelagan as Governor of the Punjab.
