From this circumstantial evidence the conclusion was drawn that, in the fowl, sex was deter mined by the presence of a single or double component which, when present in duplicate, led to the production of a male. Yet it had to be admitted that although sex was determined at the time of fertili- sation as it would irrevocably and finally apprar, the possibility was not precluded of the modification of the sex ratio by environmental agencies.
