THE FINAL AVERAGES.
The Aual averages of English Gru eins cricketers for the past season were cabled
by Reater's in India as follow:
The brother II. D. and O. Rumjahn were matched against, H. Toussaint and R. Canavarro and gave a most interesting! exhibition though beaten by three straight -seta: 5-2, 7-5 and 62. The Shanghai pair, went ahead with long lead in the first se, but at 51 the Hongkong youngsters played up brilliantly and won what was quite the cleverest game of the series. They were equally good in the next game but Toussaint and Canavarro were at the top of their form and so won the game and set. The visitors began well in the swand set and at 3-1 had hopes of getting 77.17. terms, but Shanghai had the best of the exchanges in some fast and interesting tennis and carried the score to 5-3. From *point, a of closely contested series the iced at 6-5, games gave followed by love game which gave them the second set. In the third sat, the visitors made gallant efforts to retrieve their position, but were un against clever opposition and went down by 6-2.

At their best, the Rumjahn brothers played beautiful tennis and were always in position. Omar used his exceptionally fino back-hand stroke with great effect, and generally was much more effective than on Baturday, while his brother played consis tently well. Had Toussaint and Cand 11.64 varro been in anything but match form the score would have been very different, but they gave away few points, and were strong both in attack and defence,
3. L. Wade met, S. A. Rumjahr and won
by three straight sets: 6-3, 7-5, 52, though 1 the first and third were much more strenu- os than the ecore would suggest. Rum- jahn remained on the basa line almost throughout the match, which was a mis tako, since it gave his opponent opportuni ties at the.net which were soldom missed.
