In cases of pure tuberculosis there was no more danger of infection than there was in the case of tuberculosis of the joints.

Infection was fransmitted by those suffering from mixed infection. The profession had been work. "ing on wrong lines. It had been named that all changes in the lungs of those ex- pectorating tubercle bacilli were due to the bacillus, but it had never been proved that pneumonia and the excavations of the lung were tuberculosaus in origin. Experiment flatly denied that the tubercle bacillus could cause pneumonia of the cavity formation. It was necessary either to segregate or to' rely on preventive inoculation.

Buckley, of the Depart- ment of Over-Scus Trade, addressed the conference of the British Empire Service Lengue at the Conmught Rooms 'last month on Empire settlement which, ho said, the Government regards as some- thing entirely mutual which would conble us to build up and reconstruct a strong and unitel Empire.

A self-contained. Empire, a strong Em- pire, a mutually supporting Empire would free us from many of those trade fluctus- tions which were depending so much at the present time on the system; on whien our foreign trade was conducted, would make us strong and powerful and the most powerful factor for peace in the whole world.

A redistribution of the British, populi tion was very important, both from the point of view of this country and of the Dominions. In this country there were 43,000,000 people, or 480 to the square mile in Australia there were 3,500,000, or under two to the square mile; in Canada there were 9,000,000, or about four to the square mile and in New Zealand. 1,250,000, or just over eleven the square mile,
