is the romance of Capt. Harry L Zeitun (30) formerly interpreter at Row- strect

Police Court, and a familiar figure in the cosmopolitan life of the City and West End.

His benefactor is Mrs. Julia Stone Woods Davies, who died last December. She was the daughter of Dr. William Stone Woods, the millionaire banker and founder of Excel sior Springs, Missouri, who died in 1917, leaving his daughter about £3,000,000 after

ten years.

Mr. Julia Daves is said also to have in- herited part of her mother's fortunë, es- timated at a vast sum.

The last will of Mrs. Julia Davies was made. at the Savoy Hotel, London, on May 8th, 1922, when Captain Zaitun, who was at the time her secretary, was made solo residuary legatec of her American and English

estates.

Shedirected that her husband, Mr. George Westlin Davies, should have no claim what- ever upon her estate. Her husband is con-

Soon after, Mr Davies returned to America, and Captain Zeitun did not see her again. GENA COWANS'S ORDERS.

RESTORED" TO HIS WIDOW,

There has been a happy sequel to the tragic decision of Lady Cowans to sell the orders and ecgrations of her hus band, General Sir John S. Cowans, the great quartermaster-general, who WILS responsible for the feeding of British and Allied troops during the war. She was informed on June 5th by the manager of the jeweller's shop in Piccadilly in which the decorations were placed for sale that they had been purchased by an anonymous buyer and would be restored to ber.

The orders and decorations are: The grand cross, collar, and jewel of the Order of St. Michael anil St. George; the grand cross of the Order of the Bath; the star and jewel of two Orders of the Legion of Honour: the Royal Victorian Order; the star and jewel of the Order of St. John of Jerusalem; the star and jewel of the Order of the Sacred Treasure of Japan: the Order of the Crown of Italy; the Order of the Redeemer of Greece; the| Order of the Crown of Belgium; the D.S.M. of the United States; the star and jewel of the Order of Chia Ho (China); the Coronation medals of King. Edward and King George, and several, minor de corations.

Gen. Cowany's death and debts incur red by him in his lifetime left his widow in straitened circumstances, and it bas been widely felt think his wonderful war service merited at least some measure of assistance for her. Lady Cowans only receives the pension awarded è general's widow of £225 a year.

The decorations had been in the shop only a few hours before three offer by anonymous persons, to purchase and re store them had bectr received. All through the day customers asked to see them, and expressed "the greatest sympathy with Lady Coxans. The news that the decora tions would be restored to her was quite unexpected, and as she herself said, was Too wonderful to be true." With her consent they will remain for some days in the shop window for the public to view.
